About the Verano Clan in Southern Leyte, Philippines

Actually, there were two (2) Verano brothers who originally came from Guadalupe, Cebu and migrated to Maasin, Southern Leyte sometime in the early part of the eighteen century. They have other brothers who settled in Surigao. These brothers are Caucasian looking and probably came from Spain considering that the word Verano means in Spanish Summer. They have been using the family name Verano since 1800 much earlier that the 1849 decree issued by Governor-General Narciso Claveria which required all indios and mestizos (whether Chinese or Spanish) without a proper family name to adopt a Spanish family name based on a list of surname Verano is an original family name handed down from several generations.,

Francisco Verano was born sometime in 1845. He married Bernarda Palima (Andang), a native and begot three (3) children whose names are: Eliseo P. Verano (Eli), Isidora P. Verano and Tranquilina P. Verano (Anking).
